Beirut: Two people, including a child, were injured in a new Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon on Tuesday, in the latest violation of a ceasefire agreement, the Health Ministry said. A ministry statement detailed that the injuries occurred in a drone strike targeting the Red Mountain area in Nababeih.

According to Anadolu Agency, Israeli army forces also staged a sweeping operation in Al-Adisa town in the Marjaayoun district in the south, as reported by the state news agency NNA. The ongoing conflict follows Israel's wide-scale assault on Lebanon that began on October 8, 2023, escalating into a full-scale war by September 23, 2024. This conflict has resulted in more than 4,000 deaths, over 17,000 injuries, and nearly 1.4 million displaced individuals, according to official data.

Israeli forces have conducted near-daily attacks in southern Lebanon, claiming to target Hezbollah's activities despite a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon reached in November. The truce was intended to end months of cross-border warfare between Israel and the Lebanese resistance group. However, Lebanese authorities have reported nearly 3,000 Israeli violations of the truce, resulting in at least 224 deaths and injuries to more than 500 people since the agreement was signed.

The ceasefire deal stipulated that Israel was to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by January 26, but the deadline was extended to February 18 after Tel Aviv refused to comply. Despite the agreement, Israel continues to maintain a military presence at five border outposts.
