Ankara: Fatih Karahan, the governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Trkiye (CBRT), has been appointed as the co-chair of the Financial Stability Board (FSB) Regional Consultative Group for the Middle East and North Africa.

According to Anadolu Agency, Karahan will serve a two-year term starting on July 1, alongside Hassan Abdalla, the governor of the Central Bank of Egypt. The announcement was made by the FSB on X on Thursday. Karahan expressed his honor and anticipation regarding his new role, stating on X, "Honored to be serving as Co-Chair. Looking forward to working with colleagues across the region to strengthen financial stability and deepen cooperation."

Previously, the FSB announced the appointment of Andrew Bailey, the governor of the Bank of England, as the chair of the international body. Karahan, who is 43 years old, has been the head of the Turkish Central Bank since February 2024. He holds a degree in mathematics and industrial engineering from Trkiye's Bogazici University and a doctoral degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
