Bali: The death toll from a passenger ship that capsized in Indonesia's Bali Strait has increased to 12 after two more bodies were recovered on Wednesday, a rescue agency official disclosed.

According to Anadolu Agency, Ribut Eko Suyanto, an official from the National Search and Rescue Agency, stated that search operations continue with assistance from the Indonesian navy to locate 23 missing individuals. The two bodies were discovered by fishermen along the coast of Bali Island.

The wooden vessel, which was carrying 53 passengers and 12 crew members, overturned last Wednesday while traveling from eastern Java Island to Bali Island. The ferry sank just before midnight, and approximately 30 people have been rescued so far.

Soejanto Tjahjono, chairman of the National Transportation Safety Committee, indicated that a three-phase investigation is in progress to ascertain the cause of the accident, as reported by the Antara news agency.
