Washington: US President Donald Trump has appointed Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy as the interim administrator of NASA, marking another significant leadership change within the administration. Duffy, who has been credited with spearheading advancements in the nation's transportation infrastructure, will now temporarily oversee the space agency.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump announced the appointment through a post on Truth Social, praising Duffy's achievements in transforming the country's transportation systems. Trump highlighted Duffy's dual role in creating a modern Air Traffic Control system and revamping national infrastructure, indicating that these accomplishments have prepared him to take on the challenges at NASA. However, the President hinted that Duffy's tenure might be brief, leaving open the question of whether he will seek Senate confirmation for the role.

Trump expressed confidence in Duffy's leadership capabilities, stating, "He will be a fantastic leader of the ever more important Space Agency, even if only for a short period of time." This appointment places Duffy among a select group of administration officials who are managing responsibilities across different government sectors.

The current administration has seen several officials taking on multiple roles. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is also serving as the National Security Adviser and acting head of the National Archives and Records Administration. Meanwhile, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer is fulfilling duties as the acting director of the Office of Government Ethics and acting Special Counsel of the Office of the Special Counsel. Additionally, Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll is concurrently acting as the director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
