Moscow: Moscow and Washington on Thursday confirmed their mutual commitment to finding 'peaceful solutions to conflict situations,' as Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Kuala Lumpur. A statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry detailed the discussions between Lavrov and Rubio, who were building on agreements reached during a recent phone call between the Russian and US presidents.

According to Anadolu Agency, the two diplomats conducted a "thorough comparison" of issues concerning Moscow-Washington ties and the global situation. Talks held on the sidelines of the 58th ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting in the Malaysian capital involved a substantive and frank exchange of views on the settlement around Ukraine, the situation in Iran and Syria, and several other international problems.

The statement highlighted the mutual commitment of both countries to finding peaceful solutions to conflict situations and emphasized the importance of restoring bilateral economic and humanitarian cooperation. Additionally, it mentioned the facilitation of unimpeded contacts between societies, particularly through the resumption of direct air traffic between Russia and the US.

Furthermore, the statement noted the significance of continuing efforts to normalize the functioning of diplomatic missions. It underscored that a constructive and mutually respectful dialogue between the foreign policy departments of Russia and the United States on an expanding range of issues will persist.

The Russian state news agency TASS reported that the talks lasted for about an hour. However, US authorities have not yet issued a statement regarding the discussions.
