Beirut: An Israeli airstrike resulted in the death of one individual in southern Lebanon, marking a new breach of the ceasefire agreement, as reported by the Health Ministry. The incident occurred when an Israeli aircraft targeted a house in the town of Khiam.

According to Anadolu Agency, the state news agency NNA confirmed the attack but did not disclose the identity of the victim. The Israeli army has stated that the strike was aimed at an operative in Hezbollah's anti-tank unit.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon, which began with an Israeli assault on October 8, 2023, escalated into a full-scale war by September 23, 2024. Official data indicates that the conflict has resulted in over 4,000 deaths, more than 17,000 injuries, and the displacement of nearly 1.4 million people.

Israeli forces have been conducting almost daily attacks in southern Lebanon, citing Hezbollah's activities as the target, despite a ceasefire agreement reached in November. This truce had initially ended months of cross-border warfare between Israel and Hezbollah.

Lebanese authorities have documented nearly 3,000 Israeli violations of the ceasefire, resulting in at least 231 deaths and over 500 injuries since the agreement was established. Under the ceasefire terms, Israel was expected to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by January 26, but the deadline was extended to February 18 due to non-compliance by Tel Aviv. Israel continues to maintain a military presence at five border outposts.
