Moscow: Russia on Sunday stated that Moscow and Pyongyang concur that the escalation of Western military activities is the primary cause of rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula. This announcement came during a three-day visit by Russia's top diplomat to North Korea.

According to Anadolu Agency, a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry highlighted that both parties identified increased military maneuvers by the United States and its allies, particularly those involving nuclear components, as the main contributors to the heightened tension in the region. This was discussed during a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Wonsan.

The meeting, described as having taken place in a cordial atmosphere, covered a wide array of topics, including bilateral relations and international and regional issues. The discussions also involved an exchange of views on the current situation on the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia.

The statement further mentioned Lavrov expressing Russia's appreciation for North Korea's steadfast support of Moscow's military actions in Ukraine. This includes North Korean troops' participation in efforts to repel Ukrainian forces from the Kursk border region in April.

Bilateral cooperation was also a focal point, with discussions emphasizing the practical implementation of agreements made at the highest level. Both Russia and North Korea maintain a shared approach to addressing issues on the Korean Peninsula, committing to resolving these matters through diplomatic channels.

Lavrov's visit to Wonsan, which began on Friday, included meetings with North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui as part of ongoing strategic dialogue between the two nations.
