Beijing: China on Thursday dismissed US President Donald Trump's claims regarding the country's stance on fentanyl-related crimes, asserting that the fentanyl issue is primarily a "US problem, not China's." Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian addressed a news conference, emphasizing that Beijing has consistently maintained this position.

According to Anadolu Agency, Lin stated that it is the responsibility of the United States to resolve the fentanyl crisis. He criticized the US decision to impose tariffs on Chinese imports related to fentanyl, suggesting that this move undermines the goodwill China has shown and misrepresents the situation. Lin also highlighted that these tariffs have significantly impacted China's willingness to engage in dialogue and cooperation with the US on drug control, causing harm to China's interests.

President Trump had previously expressed his belief that China would soon implement the death penalty for fentanyl producers. However, Lin stressed that if the US genuinely seeks cooperation with China, it should engage in dialogue with Beijing grounded in objective facts.
