Ankara: Former President Yoon Suk Yeol was indicted Saturday on new charges of abuse of authority tied to his December 3, 2024, imposition of martial law. Yoon is currently on trial for insurrection, facing accusations of violating Cabinet members' rights, retroactively drafting the martial law order, and deleting official records. He is in custody at the Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang.

According to Anadolu Agency, Yoon's detention earlier this month followed a court order in Seoul for his arrest, amid concerns he might attempt to destroy evidence. The 64-year-old had been released from detention in March after a court overturned his January arrest. However, his impeachment by the National Assembly in December was upheld by the Constitutional Court in April, leading to his formal removal from office.

In June, a snap election took place, resulting in the election of new President Lee Jae Myung. Subsequently, President Lee approved legislation to initiate new investigations into Yoon's actions surrounding the martial law imposition.
