Beirut: An Israeli drone strike has taken the life of a civilian who was repairing the roof of a house in the town of Khiam, located in the Marjayoun district of southern Lebanon.

According to Anadolu Agency, the incident occurred on Saturday and further details have not been immediately available.

The Israeli army later claimed responsibility for the strike, stating that it had targeted a member of Hezbollah's Radwan Force in the area. The army alleged that the individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, was involved in efforts to rebuild Hezbollah's infrastructure sites in the Khiam region in southern Lebanon.

As of 1400GMT, neither Hezbollah nor the Lebanese government had issued a response to the Israeli army's claims. Cross-border tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have been escalating since last September, culminating in a full-scale war. Despite a ceasefire agreement reached in November, Israeli forces have continued to conduct near-daily operations in southern Lebanon, citing Hezbollah activities as their targets.

Lebanese authorities have reported nearly 3,000 violations of the truce by Israeli forces, resulting in the deaths of at least 255 people and injuries to more than 560. Under the terms of the ceasefire, Israel was expected to withdraw completely from southern Lebanon by January 26. However, the deadline was extended to February 18 after Tel Aviv's refusal to comply, and Israel still maintains a military presence at five border outposts.
