Ankara: The Turkish central government's gross debt stock reached 11.4 trillion Turkish liras, equivalent to $286.4 billion, by the end of June, as revealed by official figures on Monday.
According to Anadolu Agency, data from the Treasury and Finance Ministry indicated a 44.7% increase compared to the debt stock at the end of June last year. The gross debt stock comprises outstanding debts from public sector institutions, the Central Bank, private companies, and households.
The report highlighted that 44.5% of the debt stock is denominated in Turkey's local currency, with the remainder in foreign currencies. Of the total debt, 6.58 trillion Turkish liras ($165.2 billion) was classified as domestic debt, while 4.89 trillion liras ($122.8 billion) was recorded as external debt.
