Istanbul: Trkiye on Tuesday introduced its first hypersonic missile, the Tayfun Block-4, as part of six new advanced systems unveiled by defense giant Roketsan at the IDEF 2025 international defense fair.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Tayfun Block-4 is a hypersonic version of Trkiye's longest-range nationally produced ballistic missile. Weighing over 7 tons, it features a multi-purpose warhead capable of targeting strategic sites such as air defense systems and command centers from significant distances. The advancements in this missile set another milestone for the Turkish defense industry.
The Atmaca missile, equipped with the Akata capsule, is a submarine-launched variant of the Atmaca anti-ship missile already in service with the Turkish Armed Forces, boasting a range of 250 kilometers. Roketsan's statement highlighted that Akata would enhance maritime defense capabilities with its high-explosive fragmentation warhead.
Roketsan also introduced the Gokbora beyond visual range air-to-air missile, which can engage targets over 100 nautical miles away, and the Eren loitering munition, designed for versatile use against both airborne and ground targets. The Eren, capable of being launched from various platforms, covers over 100 kilometers and offers superior guidance and long endurance.
Additionally, the 300 Er air-launched ballistic missile system can be deployed from jets and UAVs, reaching distances beyond 500 kilometers, while the Simsek-2 satellite-space launch vehicle can place satellites into sun-synchronous orbit at altitudes exceeding 700 kilometers.
Roketsan's CEO, Murat Ikinci, emphasized the company's commitment to pioneering technologies, enhancing the Turkish Armed Forces' capabilities, and boosting Trkiye's strategic and economic stature through exports. He noted the company's participation in IDEF with over 60 proven defense systems and the launch of six new products as evidence of their technological progress.
The six-day IDEF event, supported by Trkiye's Defense Industries Secretariat and the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, is held across multiple venues in Istanbul. It features over 900 domestic and 400 foreign defense firms, with participation from top representatives of 103 countries.
