Istanbul: A Japanese navy officer on Wednesday commended Turkish drone maker Baykar's unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs), highlighting their value in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) - a mission area he called vital for Japan.

According to Anadolu Agency, Japanese naval officer Iwade Yohei, speaking at the IDEF 2025 defense industry fair in Istanbul, emphasized the critical nature of ISR operations for Japan. He noted that the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force conducts ISR missions around the clock.

Expressing interest in the Bayraktar UAVs manufactured by Trkiye, Yohei stated his eagerness to learn more about the details of these drones. He remarked on Trkiye's ability to make swift decisions in the defense industry, contrasting it with Japan's approach.

This marked Yohei's first exposure to Turkish naval systems, and he expressed a desire to deepen his understanding of Turkish naval products. He also expressed hope for closer relations between Trkiye and Japan to foster better communication between their defense industries.

Baykar, recognized as the world's largest producer of unmanned aerial vehicles, is showcasing its renowned UCAVs, including the Bayraktar TB2, TB3, Akinci, and Kizilelma, at IDEF 2025 in Istanbul. The event attracts thousands of international attendees.

IDEF 2025 is being held at multiple venues, including the Istanbul Fair Center, Atatrk Airport, WOW Hotel, and Atak¶y Marina. It is organized by KFA Fairs with support from Trkiye's Defense Industries Secretariat and the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, with Anadolu Agency serving as the global communication partner.

This year's edition of the fair hosts ministers, chiefs of staff, commanders, and top representatives from 103 countries. Participants from 44 countries are exhibiting, with more than 900 domestic and 400 international defense firms in attendance.
