Moscow: Zoom was fined 79.6 million rubles ($964,000) by a Moscow court Tuesday for failing to fulfill its obligations under Russian law regarding activities of foreign individuals on the internet, according to media reports.

According to Anadolu Agency, the magistrate of judicial district No. 422 of the Tagansky district of Moscow found Zoom Communication guilty of an administrative offense. The court cited Part 3 of Article 13.49 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, noting a repeated violation related to the failure to meet obligations stipulated by Russian legislation on the activities of foreign entities on the internet within the country. As a result, Zoom was assigned an administrative fine amounting to 79 million 609 thousand 733 rubles.

Previously, the videotelephony company had faced a fine of 15 million rubles ($181,700) for not localizing user data, highlighting ongoing scrutiny of foreign internet companies operating in Russia.

Several Western internet companies, including Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, have also faced occasional fines in Russia for similar violations, indicating a pattern of regulatory actions against international tech firms.
