Zhejiang: Typhoon Co-May, the eighth tropical storm to impact China this year, made its way to the eastern province of Zhejiang early Wednesday, as reported by Chinese officials.

According to Anadolu Agency, the typhoon struck Zhoushan City in Zhejiang with maximum wind speeds reaching 23 meters per second. This prompted the Zhejiang provincial meteorological observatory to elevate the emergency response level from IV to III on Tuesday at 3:00 pm local time (0700 GMT). China's emergency response system for natural disasters operates on a four-tier scale, with Level I indicating the highest alert.

In a separate but related incident, at least 30 people lost their lives due to heavy rainfall in Beijing, leading to widespread flooding, infrastructure damage, and mass evacuations. In response, President Xi Jinping called for comprehensive efforts to safeguard lives and property.

Additionally, a severe flash flood, the worst in 70 years, struck the Jizhou district in Tianjin municipality, northern China. This led to 13 villages being inundated and triggered a top-level emergency response. As of Tuesday, approximately 10,527 residents have been relocated to seven emergency shelters.
