Volgograd: Russia said on Monday that an overnight Ukrainian drone attack sparked a fire at a railway station in the country's southern Volgograd region. A statement by the regional administration, citing Governor Andrey Bocharov, detailed the incident which occurred at the Archeda train station in the town of Frolovo, approximately 130 kilometers northeast of the city of Volgograd.

According to Anadolu Agency, Governor Bocharov reported that the fire erupted at a technical building within the station. The attack also resulted in broken windows in two nearby residential buildings, targeting regional "transport and energy facilities." In response to the incident, train traffic in the area was temporarily restricted to address an unexploded drone on the railway tracks, though the tracks themselves remained undamaged.

Bocharov added that damage from falling debris affected a high-voltage wire in the Ilovlinsky district, prompting engineers to work on restoring power to the village of Ilovlya and adjacent settlements. The Privolzhskaya Railway, a branch of state-owned Russian Railways, confirmed that several trains in the region experienced delays due to the attack.

Meanwhile, Russian state news agency TASS reported that the Federal Air Transport Agency imposed restrictions on flights at airports in Volgograd and Tambov, although these restrictions were subsequently lifted. The Defense Ministry separately claimed that air defenses intercepted and shot down 61 Ukrainian drones overnight, with six of those being downed over the Volgograd region.

Ukrainian authorities have yet to comment on the reports, though Kyiv has previously targeted infrastructure within Russia, citing support for Moscow's military activities in Ukraine. Frolovo is located about 250 kilometers from the border with Ukraine's easternmost Luhansk region.
