New york: A US judge in the criminal trial of hip-hop mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs has declined to grant him bail, citing the absence of "exceptional reasons" to release him prior to his October sentencing.

According to Anadolu Agency, US District Judge Arun Subramanian of the Southern District of New York ruled that Combs "fails to satisfy his burden to demonstrate an entitlement to release." Subramanian noted that Combs did not provide sufficient evidence to counter concerns that he poses a flight risk and dismissed Combs' claim regarding the poor and dangerous conditions at the Metropolitan Detention Center as a basis for his release.

Subramanian stated that while there has been widespread public concern over the conditions at the detention center, the staff has managed to ensure Combs' safety and meet his needs, even during an incident involving a threatened act of violence from another inmate. Combs' legal team had put forward a proposal for his release on a $50 million bond, secured by his Miami residence, suggesting that he would only travel between Florida and New York for legal consultations. However, the judge rejected the proposal, citing risks to Combs' accusers and concerns over his history of drug use.

Last month, Combs was convicted by a jury on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution but was acquitted of more severe charges like racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. These charges could have led to a much longer imprisonment. Combs has been detained at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center for 11 months, and his attorneys have repeatedly sought his release since the conviction. He faces sentencing on October 3, with a potential prison term of up to 10 years for each count.
