Dushanbe: Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has conveyed his support for diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a settlement in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, as stated by the country's presidency.

According to Anadolu Agency, the statement followed a phone call between President Rahmon and Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the call, Rahmon expressed his gratitude for the information shared by Putin and endorsed the pursuit of political and diplomatic solutions to the Ukrainian crisis.

The statement highlighted that Putin briefed Rahmon on the primary outcomes of the ongoing negotiations with the United States. Both leaders discussed current issues related to bilateral cooperation and the international agenda, expressing their commitment to further joint measures to develop bilateral ties.

A subsequent statement from the Kremlin revealed that Putin also informed Rahmon about his meeting with US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, in Moscow last Wednesday. The meeting resulted in an agreement to hold face-to-face talks with the US counterpart in Alaska on Friday.

The upcoming talks in Alaska between Putin and Trump are expected to focus on finding a resolution to the armed conflict in Ukraine. This meeting will mark the first face-to-face interaction between the Russian and US presidents since June 2021.
