Ottawa: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Wednesday participated in a virtual meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, focused on supporting Ukraine. The coalition commended the leadership and initiative of US President Donald Trump and the United States, discussing ongoing efforts to secure peace in Ukraine ahead of upcoming ceasefire talks between Washington and Moscow, scheduled for this Friday in Alaska, as stated by the prime minister's office.

According to Anadolu Agency, Prime Minister Carney reiterated Canada's unwavering support for Ukraine, highlighted by $2 billion in new military assistance and a $2.3 billion loan through the G7 Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration Loans mechanism. The coalition leaders emphasized that Ukraine's future should be determined by its citizens, with the assertion that borders must not be changed by force. They also agreed that diplomacy should be reinforced by military and economic pressure, along with credible security guarantees to uphold Ukraine's sovereignty.

The statement noted that the meeting was co-led by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US Vice President JD Vance also participated in the discussions. The war in Ukraine, which began in February 2022, has now entered its fourth year.
