Paris: France, Germany, and the UK have informed the United Nations of their readiness to reimpose sanctions on Iran unless Tehran engages in renewed negotiations regarding its nuclear program. This development was reported by the Financial Times (FT) on Tuesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the foreign ministers of the E3 group communicated to the UN the potential activation of 'snapback' sanctions if Iran fails to act. The ministers emphasized that Iran must seek a diplomatic solution before the deadline of August 2025 or utilize the option for an extension, or they would trigger the sanctions mechanism.

The E3's letter followed a meeting between the three European countries and Iran in Istanbul last month, aimed at rekindling the nuclear discussions with the United States. The backdrop of these talks includes the US withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal by former President Donald Trump in 2018, citing concerns over nuclear weapon development, despite assertions that the deal was effective. Iran continues to assert that its nuclear endeavors are solely for peaceful purposes.
