Tel aviv: The Israeli army is preparing to mobilize approximately 80,000 to 100,000 reservists for a potential occupation of Gaza City, as reported by local media on Thursday. This move follows the recent approval by Israel's Security Cabinet of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plan to fully occupy the city, a decision that has sparked significant international criticism.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth revealed that the decision to issue thousands of call-up orders came after Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir approved the main framework for the occupation plan. The operation's details and timeline are set to be further discussed in the coming days, with expectations that the occupation could continue until the end of 2026.

Israel is currently under intense scrutiny for its military actions in Gaza, which have resulted in the deaths of more than 61,700 people since October 2023. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice related to its actions in the enclave.
