Ankara: US President Donald Trump announced his intention to prioritize an immediate peace deal over a ceasefire ahead of his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. The leaders are set to discuss the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has entered its fourth year.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump expressed his focus on securing a rapid peace agreement during an interview with Fox Radio. He acknowledged the challenges of achieving an immediate ceasefire but emphasized the urgency of a comprehensive peace deal. Trump mentioned that he might contact Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for a follow-up meeting, contingent on the outcomes of the discussions with Putin. While he suggested Alaska could be a potential location for this meeting, he refrained from disclosing other possible venues.

Trump clarified his role in the negotiations, stating that he aims to facilitate rather than direct the discussions between Russia and Ukraine. "I'm going to let them negotiate their deal. I'm not going to negotiate their deal," he asserted. The summit in Alaska underscores Trump's commitment to addressing the prolonged conflict, seeking a resolution beyond temporary measures like a ceasefire.
