Ankara: Trkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan engaged in a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron to deliberate on the Russia-Ukraine peace process and the latest developments in Gaza.

According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan conveyed Ankara's satisfaction with the recent meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. He emphasized that Trkiye is closely monitoring the unfolding peace process. Erdogan also highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as a critical topic during their discussion.

Erdogan praised France's decision to recognize the state of Palestine, pointing out the global security threat posed by the Israeli government's plans to occupy Gaza City. He expressed optimism about enhancing cooperation with France, especially in the defense industry, following his conversation with Macron.

Earlier, Trkiye's Communications Directorate disclosed on the NSosyal platform that the phone call, initiated at France's request, covered bilateral relations, the peace process between Russia and Ukraine, developments in Gaza, and other regional and global matters. Erdogan reiterated Trkiye's willingness to host initiatives aimed at peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.

On the topic of Gaza, Erdogan emphasized Trkiye's efforts to secure a ceasefire amidst the ongoing humanitarian crisis. He warned against Israel's increasing aggression in its occupation plans and stressed the need to curb such actions. The two leaders have agreed to continue their discussions at the upcoming UN General Assembly in New York in September.
