Roseland: An explosion Friday at Smitty's supply plant in the US state of Louisiana led to road closures and a 1-mile evacuation, including the Roseland Elementary School. Authorities in Roseland stated that the main concerns are fire and debris, not chemicals, as emergency teams work to secure the site. According to Anadolu Agency, because the elementary school is close to the explosion site, the Tangipahoa Parish Office of Homeland Security ordered the school to be evacuated. Students were bused to the Central Office in Amite, where parents and guardians can pick them up. Officials emphasized that the safety of students and staff is a top priority and urged the community to remain patient and cooperative during this event.

The evacuation area was initially small but later extended to a 1-mile radius as a precaution against fire and falling debris, according to officials. Highway 51 at Highway 10 remains closed, with drivers advised to use alternate routes. The Tangipahoa Parish Emergency Operations Center remains active and continues assessments.
