Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday emphasized the significance of the forthcoming discussions in New York concerning a two-state solution in the Middle East. He stated that the conference would play a crucial role in uniting the international community's efforts towards peace.
According to Anadolu Agency, Macron revealed that he had a conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman prior to the meeting, which the two leaders are set to co-chair on Monday. Macron underscored the impact of the July New York Declaration on the two-state solution, adopted by 142 countries, as a pivotal moment in directing efforts towards enduring peace and security in the Middle East.
Macron conveyed on US social media platform X that the conference should serve as a stepping stone in rallying global support. He reaffirmed his commitment to the principle of "two peoples, two states, peace and security for all," which he believes should be the basis of a future resolution.
The United Nations gathering aims to advance a two-state resolution to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Recent UN investigations have concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, with the death toll exceeding 65,000. Currently, approximately three-quarters of UN member states recognize Palestine, with Ireland, Spain, and Norway expected to formalize their recognition in 2024.
