Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday welcomed the European Union's progress toward adopting its 19th sanctions package against Russia, stating it targets the 'key engines of the war economy.'
According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy highlighted that the sanctions aim to affect sectors such as energy revenues, finance, high-tech inputs, and the military-industrial base. He emphasized that this step would intensify pressure on Russia's war efforts and have a significant impact.
Zelenskyy also expressed appreciation for the EU's work on developing a mechanism to utilize revenues from frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine. He described this initiative as critical for enhancing Ukraine's defense, resilience, and recovery.
The Ukrainian president thanked the EU for its leadership and unity, urging for the swift adoption of the 19th sanctions package. He also called on other international partners to adopt similar measures, underscoring the importance of sustained pressure to compel Russia toward peace and accountability.
