New york: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine is gearing up for a significant 'week of diplomacy' in New York during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) set to begin on Tuesday. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of global support in bringing the conflict closer to a resolution.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy made his remarks in a video address on the social media platform X late Sunday. He outlined his plans for an intensive schedule, which includes nearly two dozen meetings with world leaders, among them US President Donald Trump. A key event during the week will be a global summit addressing the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia, underscoring the necessity for strong international actions to achieve peace.
The Ukrainian president indicated that discussions with Trump would cover security guarantees, a topic he confirmed with journalists on Saturday. Zelenskyy will lead the Ukrainian delegation at the UNGA and is also anticipated to participate in the fifth summit of the Crimea Platform on September 24, as stated by Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
The Crimea Platform, initiated by Zelenskyy, serves as an international diplomatic forum aimed at maintaining global focus on Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014. The inaugural summit occurred on August 23, 2021, with the most recent session held in September 2024.
