French MEP Embarks on New Gaza Flotilla to Challenge Israeli Blockade

Paris: A French Member of the European Parliament taking part in the Thousand Madleens to Gaza flotilla, told Anadolu on Tuesday that despite the risks involved and previous mistreatment by Israeli forces, participants remain determined to carry out the mission and challenge the illegal blockade.

According to Anadolu Agency, Melissa Camara, the MEP onboard the Leila Khaled boat, emphasized the flotilla's primary objective to break the siege of Gaza. Camara stated that the participants are highly motivated, with nine vessels currently making their way towards Gaza, expected to enter the high-risk zone tonight and reach Gaza within the next two days.

Reflecting on past flotilla missions like the Global Sumud Flotilla, Camara criticized the actions of Israeli authorities, citing brutal treatment and illegal detention of activists, which she believes are a result of a lack of international accountability. "We know what Israel is doing. They are always breaking international law, and we know that we could be kidnapped. We know that there could be violence, but we are more motivated than ever because we know that we are on the good side of history," she asserted.

Camara attributed the persistent inaction of governments and parliaments as a key motivator for independent action. She expressed frustration over the European Parliament's recent resolution on Gaza, where the far-right and right-wing factions removed the term 'genocide.' For Camara, witnessing the complicity and lack of accountability firsthand was a tipping point, leading her to join the flotilla.

As a mother, Camara expressed a deep desire for her daughter to grow up in a world that addresses and confronts genocide. She highlighted the non-violent and peaceful intent of the flotilla's passengers, aiming to deliver humanitarian aid and challenge Israel's blockade of Gaza.

Camara underscored the importance of continued global pressure for political and economic sanctions, as well as an arms embargo, stating, "We have to keep the pressure to keep the eyes on Gaza, to speak about the genocide, and we have to keep the eyes on the flotillas."

In a message to the people of Palestine, Camara declared, "I want just to say that we are here, we are coming, and one day Palestine will be free."
