Washington: US President Donald Trump announced that AstraZeneca will lower the prices of its drugs sold in the US. In a news conference at the White House, Trump emphasized that reducing drug prices has been a pivotal agenda item for his presidency, highlighting the fact that Americans have historically paid the 'highest prices anywhere in the world' for medications.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump revealed that AstraZeneca, the prominent pharmaceutical manufacturer based in the United Kingdom, is set to provide major discounts on its extensive range of prescription drugs to Americans. He described AstraZeneca as a leading company and introduced the 'most favored nation's pricing clause' to ensure that Americans pay the lowest possible price for drugs, equivalent to the lowest prices found globally.

Trump elaborated on how similar drugs are available at significantly lower prices in other countries, contrasting sharply with the high prices in the US. He also announced that all future medications introduced by AstraZeneca in the American market would be available at these reduced rates. Additionally, AstraZeneca plans to invest $50 billion in the US over the next five years, focusing on research and development of new drugs and establishing manufacturing facilities across the country.

This announcement follows a similar declaration made by Trump on September 30 regarding Pfizer's commitment to lower drug prices in the US. Trump stated that Pfizer agreed to provide significant discounts on various prescription medications under the 'most favored nation' drug pricing model introduced earlier in the year.
