Ankara: Iran on Tuesday denounced 'baseless claims' made by US President Donald Trump, calling Washington "the largest sponsor of terrorism."

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump addressed Israel's Knesset on Monday ahead of joining an international peace summit in Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh, where he claimed that Iran wants to reach a peace deal with the US 'even if they said, 'We don't want to make a deal.''

In a statement carried by the state news agency IRNA, the Iranian Foreign Ministry criticized the US, describing it as "the world's largest generator of terrorism and supporter of the terrorist and genocidal (Israeli) Zionist regime." The ministry asserted that the US lacks the moral authority to accuse others.

The repetition of claims regarding Iran's nuclear program was dismissed by the ministry, stating that it does not justify the joint actions of the US and Israel. The statement referred to the US-Israel actions as violations of Iran's sovereignty.

Details of the conflict include a surprise attack launched by Israel on Tehran on June 13, targeting various sites and personnel. In response, Tehran executed missile and drone strikes, while the US targeted Iranian nuclear sites. A ceasefire, sponsored by the US, took effect on June 24, ending the 12-day conflict.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry called for accountability from Washington for its role in what it described as the impunity of Israel. The ministry accused the US of preventing effective action against Israel in the UN Security Council and obstructing international judicial processes against Israeli actions.

Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have resulted in the deaths of more than 67,800 Palestinians in Gaza, predominantly women and children, rendering the area largely uninhabitable. The first phase of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas began on Friday.
