Gaza city: The Palestinian resistance group Hamas announced on Sunday its intention to hand over the remains of an Israeli hostage, indicating that the transfer would occur "when field conditions permit." This development follows the group's statement emphasizing that any renewed Israeli military actions could impede their ongoing search and recovery efforts.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Qassam Brigades, Hamas's armed wing, cautioned that Israeli hostilities could disrupt the recovery operations, potentially delaying the return of Israeli remains. Despite a ceasefire agreement, the Israeli army conducted airstrikes in Rafah and Al-Zawayda, continuing tensions in the region.

The current ceasefire agreement resulted in the release of 20 living Israeli hostages and the return of the remains of 13 captives in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. This agreement, reached on October 8, was part of a phased plan proposed by US President Donald Trump, which included steps for rebuilding Gaza and establishing a new governance structure excluding Hamas.

Since the onset of escalations in October 2023, the conflict has resulted in significant casualties, with over 68,100 deaths and more than 170,200 injuries, as reported by the Gaza Health Ministry.
