Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated Tufan Erhurman, the leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), who won the presidential election Sunday in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) according to unofficial results. In a post on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, Erdogan expressed his hopes for the election's positive impact on both countries and the broader region.

According to Anadolu Agency, unofficial results from the TRNC Supreme Election Council showed that Erhurman secured 62.76% of the vote, surpassing the independent candidate and incumbent President Ersin Tatar, who garnered 35.81%. Erdogan emphasized that the election demonstrated the TRNC's democratic maturity and affirmed Trkiye's commitment to defending the TRNC's sovereign rights and interests.

Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz also praised the election outcome, highlighting the political maturity of the TRNC and its citizens. Yilmaz reiterated Trkiye's unwavering support for the TRNC and the Turkish Cypriot people as their motherland and guarantor.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry released a statement congratulating Erhurman, affirming Trkiye's continued contribution to the welfare and development of the Turkish Cypriot people within its responsibilities. Erhurman, after the election results, assured that no foreign policy decisions concerning Cyprus would be made without Trkiye's consultation during his term.

Erhurman expressed gratitude towards President Erdogan, Vice President Yilmaz, and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan for their congratulations. He stated that strengthening relations between the TRNC and Trkiye would be a mission of his leadership.

Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus congratulated Erhurman, expressing hope for positive outcomes for the TRNC, Trkiye, and the wider Turkic world. Trkiye's Communications Director Burhanettin Duran remarked that the peaceful conduct of the election was a strong indicator of the maturity of Turkish Cypriot democracy.
