Daejeon: South Korea announced that five individuals have been charged with professional negligence following a fire at a data center in Daejeon, which resulted in the destruction of 858 terabytes of data last month.

According to Anadolu Agency, the individuals charged include a National Information Resources Service (NIRS) official, one person from a project management firm, and three employees from construction companies. The fire originated from an explosion of an uninterruptible power supply battery during a relocation operation to the basement. The operation was conducted by unqualified workers, as the company had illegally subcontracted the task to other entities.

The investigation revealed that workers neglected to adhere to safety protocols during the relocation process. The incident severely impacted the country's national data network, with online administrative services still not fully operational since the fire on September 26.

Police findings indicated that the workers lacked experience in handling large-scale battery relocations. This lack of experience, combined with insufficient safety measures, is believed to have led to the fire.
