Kuala lumpur: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Tuesday emphasized the importance of ‘collective responsibility’ and adherence to international norms at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-Australia Summit in Kuala Lumpur.

According to Anadolu Agency, Albanese highlighted that while the region’s prosperity has been built on shared opportunities, its security hinges on collective responsibility and shared agency. He urged against a mindset that views the future as predetermined, emphasizing that all parties involved have an active role in shaping their future.

Albanese stated, “None of us is a mere spectator. together, we will shape our future.” He called for collaboration to achieve the desired security and prosperity for all citizens in the region.

The Australian leader also expressed Canberra’s intent to capitalize on investment and trade opportunities identified in “Invested: Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040.” Despite the prevailing global economic uncertainty, Australia remains committed to the growth and prosperity of Southeast Asia.

The summit in Kuala Lumpur was also attended by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
