Taipei: Taiwan has announced its intention to pursue closer cooperation with both the United States and Israel, as stated by William Lai Ching-te during a meeting with members of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in Taipei. This marks the first visit by an AIPAC delegation to Taiwan, highlighting the island's growing engagement with Israel amidst domestic protests over the situation in Gaza.

According to Anadolu Agency, Lai emphasized Taiwan's strategic focus on strengthening partnerships, investing in advanced technology, and enhancing defense capabilities with the US and Israel. He expressed hope for increased collaboration in security and trade, aiming to promote peace across the Taiwan Strait.

Taiwan hopes to leverage its position as a semiconductor industry hub by integrating US and Israeli resources in research and development, as mentioned in an official statement from Taipei. Despite not formally recognizing either Israel or Palestine, Taiwan has maintained commercial ties with Tel Aviv since 1993 through an economic and trade office in Taipei. The cooperation primarily centers on technology, industry, and defense.
