According to Anadolu Agency, the explosion followed a fire within the premises. Official figures have not yet been disclosed, but initial reports suggest a death toll of at least 23, with over 10 individuals sustaining injuries. Efforts to control the fire were successful, and authorities have commenced an investigation to ascertain the explosion's cause.

One of the potential causes being examined is a gas leak or fuel buildup, as reported by the La Jornada newspaper. The Sonora public security secretariat clarified on US social media platform X that the explosion was not an attack or related to a violent act against civilians.

President Claudia Sheinbau expressed her condolences to the victims' families. She communicated her ongoing contact with Sonora's governor, Alfonso Durazo, to offer necessary assistance. Additionally, she directed the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodriguez, to deploy a support team to aid the affected families and injured individuals.
