Toulouse: French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday emphasized ongoing efforts at the European level to implement a ban on social media for users below a certain age. During a debate on social media in Toulouse, Macron shared his perspective with readers of La Depeche du Midi, stating, "I believe we need to move toward banning social media up to a certain age."

According to Anadolu Agency, Macron reiterated the importance of this initiative, highlighting the ongoing debate over setting the age limit at either 14, 15, or 16 years. "We'll need to settle it. And we are currently building a coalition in Europe to achieve this," he stated.

Macron also addressed his presence on social media platforms like X, operated by a US company, and discussed the influence of online misinformation. He mentioned that while he does not intend to leave social media immediately, he is considering it, explaining that it must be a "comprehensive process."

France has already enacted a law in 2023 that requires parental consent for individuals under 15 to access social media. However, this law's enforcement has been delayed due to concerns about its alignment with European regulations.
