Istanbul: British activist Ruth Herbert is nearing the end of her 6.5-month walk from the UK to Istanbul to raise donations for Palestinians. Herbert, 52, embarked on her journey from Arnside on May 2 and traversed several countries including France, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Montenegro, Albania, North Macedonia, and Greece, before reaching Turkey. Her journey is set to conclude in Istanbul on Saturday, with approximately £50,000 raised so far.

According to Anadolu Agency, Herbert's walk was motivated by a desire to contribute more significantly to the Palestinian cause beyond attending protests. She aimed to support the charity Medical Aid for Palestinians and sought to inspire hope amid despair while connecting with supporters of the Palestinian struggle across Europe and beyond. Herbert emphasized the personal healing she experienced through walking, as well as the potential for healing for Palestinians.

Herbert expressed that collective action can create a global community, advocating that any contribution towards peace and justice for Palestine can make a difference. She highlighted the importance of perseverance in resistance movements, stressing that change requires time and sustained effort.

Describing her journey as both physically demanding and rewarding, Herbert recounted the kindness and generosity she encountered, which included free meals and accommodation. She is optimistic about reaching her fundraising goal and encourages continued donations to support medical aid for Palestinians.
