Damascus: A woman sustained injuries following an explosion in the Mezzeh district of Damascus, as authorities launched an investigation into the incident. The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) confirmed that the explosion was heard across the Mezzeh area, causing concern among residents.

According to Anadolu Agency, a security source disclosed to state TV channel al-Ikhbariya that the explosion occurred at a home in the Mezzeh 86 neighborhood, attributed to an attack by unidentified assailants. Security forces have initiated an investigation to uncover the circumstances of the incident and are actively pursuing those responsible. A military source informed SANA that rockets were fired from a mobile launcher in the attack.

The party behind the attack and the exact weapons remain unknown, as stated by the source. Efforts are underway to explore all aspects of the attack and provide the public with comprehensive details. The Defense Ministry's media and communications directorate, as reported by SANA, revealed that the capital experienced a 'treacherous attack' involving two Katyusha rockets launched from the city's outskirts toward residential neighborhoods in Mezzeh.

The ministry reported injuries to several civilians and property damage caused by the rockets. An investigation has been opened in collaboration with the Interior Ministry to determine the rockets' trajectory, identify launch sites, and gather evidence. The ministry vowed to pursue the perpetrators and take measures against those threatening the capital's security and the well-being of Syrians.

This incident occurs as Syria's new administration, led by President Ahmed Al-Sharaa, seeks to enhance security across the nation following the ouster of Bashar al-Assad last December. Assad fled to Russia, ending the Baath Party's rule that began in 1963. The transitional administration assumed office in January.
