Tokyo: Indonesia and Japan conducted a joint meeting involving their foreign and defense ministers in Tokyo, agreeing to bolster bilateral cooperation. Japan's Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu and Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi hosted Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.

According to Anadolu Agency, this meeting was the first since Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's Cabinet was established last month. Discussions centered on bilateral security and defense cooperation, regional issues, and collaboration in the international arena, as stated by the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

Both parties reiterated their commitment to deepening cooperation to maintain and enhance a free and open international order based on the rule of law. The ministers also addressed global issues, agreeing to collaborate toward the early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza and the realization of a two-state solution.

Regarding Myanmar, the ministers shared their serious concern over the worsening situation and reaffirmed their intention for close coordination on this matter. Indonesia and Japan have shared diplomatic relations since 1958, with a trade volume in goods reaching $35.67 billion in 2024.
