Bahnousa: The Sudanese army reported significant success against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Tuesday, claiming to have inflicted substantial losses on the group in the city of Babnousa, located in West Kordofan.

According to Anadolu Agency, a military statement revealed that the 22nd Infantry Division of the Sudanese army successfully repelled an RSF assault in Babnousa. The confrontation resulted in heavy casualties for the RSF, with hundreds of militants reported killed and numerous combat vehicles either seized or destroyed.

The RSF has not yet issued any statement regarding the army's claims. This development follows a unilateral announcement by RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo on Monday, declaring a three-month humanitarian truce in Sudan. Despite this proclamation, RSF forces have been accused of continuing to commit abuses against civilians in North Darfur and the three Kordofan states.

On Sunday, the RSF stated that its forces were advancing towards Babnousa with the aim of capturing the city, which has been under siege since January 2024. The ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which erupted in April 2023, has defied regional and international mediation efforts, resulting in thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions.
