Tehran: Iran has detained two South Korean nationals on charges of alleged smuggling, as reported by Seoul-based Yonhap News, citing diplomatic sources. The incident has drawn attention to the legal challenges foreign nationals can face in Iran, especially concerning accusations of smuggling.

According to Anadolu Agency, the two South Koreans were detained alongside an Iranian national around November 20 in the southwestern region of Iran. All three individuals face smuggling charges, although details of the alleged offenses remain unclear. One of the detained South Koreans is reportedly an employee of a South Korean public institution, while the other resides in Iran.

Tehran has yet to release a statement addressing these allegations. In response to the detentions, South Korean diplomatic officials have maintained contact with the local embassy and Iranian authorities. They are actively providing consular support to the detained individuals to ensure their rights are upheld during the investigation.

"It is difficult to disclose details as the case is still under investigation by local authorities," a South Korean government official stated, emphasizing the sensitive nature of the ongoing legal proceedings.
