Seattle: Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing platform of US e-commerce giant Amazon, announced the launch of its new artificial intelligence (AI) chip called Trainium3 on Tuesday. The firm stated that the Trainium3 chip offers the opportunity to train and run AI models faster and at a lower cost.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trainium3 UltraServers are designed to deliver high performance for AI workloads, boasting up to 4.4 times more compute performance, 4 times greater energy efficiency, and nearly 4 times more memory bandwidth than its predecessor, Trainium2 UltraServers. This advancement is expected to enable faster AI development with reduced operational costs.

Amazon highlighted that the chip features advanced design innovations, optimized connections that enhance data flow between chips, and advanced memory systems to eliminate bottlenecks in large AI models. Furthermore, Trainium3 provides significant energy savings, with 40% better energy efficiency compared to previous generations.

The company emphasized the importance of this efficiency on a large scale, allowing AWS to offer a more cost-effective AI infrastructure while minimizing the environmental impact across its data centers. Additionally, Amazon disclosed that AWS is developing the Trainium4 chip, which is intended to support US chipmaker Nvidia's NVLink Fusion high-speed chip interconnect technology.
