Washington: Democratic US Senator Ron Wyden announced Tuesday that his proposed legislation, the Produce Epstein Treasury Records Act, has gained the backing of Jeffrey Epstein's victims. The bill calls on the Treasury Department to release records related to Epstein's financial dealings to Senate investigators.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Senate Finance Committee issued a statement revealing that the group of Epstein survivors expressed their endorsement of the bill through a letter from their attorneys. The proposed legislation would compel Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to disclose Epstein-related records currently held by the Treasury Department. These records are distinct from those mandated for release by the Department of Justice under previous legislation.
The purpose of the bill is to uncover the methods used by Epstein and his associates to conceal the wealth that sustained their sex trafficking operations. The victims emphasized the necessity of transparency and urged for the release of all government-held records to better illuminate the network that facilitated these criminal activities.
Senator Wyden highlighted the importance of the withheld records in mapping Epstein's financial activities, asserting that they are crucial for understanding who financed and enabled the trafficking ring. He praised the victims for their bravery and noted their support as a significant affirmation of his efforts.
If passed, the legislation would require Secretary Bessent to provide physical copies of all Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) related to Epstein to the leadership of both the Senate Finance and Banking Committees. Additionally, the bill would necessitate a report identifying all financial institutions that filed these SARs, as well as the individuals and entities mentioned within them.
