Washington: US President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that Somali-American Representative Ilhan Omar should be expelled from the country and barred from serving in Congress. "These Somalians have taken billions of dollars out of our country. They have a representative, Ilhan Omar...she shouldn't be allowed to be a congresswoman...and she should be thrown the hell out of our country," he remarked to reporters.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump criticized Omar for frequently discussing the Constitution and suggested she "go back" to Somalia to understand its constitution. He claimed Somali-Americans, such as Omar, should not be allowed to serve as congresspeople because they do not represent American interests. Trump's comments extended to Minnesota, where he accused Governor Tim Walz of incompetence and corruption, labeling him as "crooked as hell."

At a Cabinet meeting, Trump further alleged that Somalians "ripped off" Minnesota for billions of dollars every year without contributing anything, highlighting his stance against the state's significant Somali-American community. "I don't want them in our country," he stated.

In response, Omar criticized Trump's "obsession" with her and the Somali community as "creepy and unhealthy," asserting that she would not be intimidated. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) also condemned Trump's statements, describing them as "dangerous and openly racist rhetoric" against Omar and Somali-Americans.

Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre reportedly dismissed Trump's comments, as mentioned in local media.
