Ankara: Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has called for the urgent deployment of an international stabilization force along Gaza's 'yellow line' to ensure adherence to the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

According to Anadolu Agency, Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of international monitors to oversee the ceasefire, highlighting that Israel continues to occupy over half of Gaza's territory. The yellow line demarcates areas of Israeli military presence from regions where Palestinian movement is permitted. Speaking at the Doha Forum 2025, Abdelatty pointed out that Israel is frequently violating the ceasefire, while placing blame on the opposing side.

The Foreign Minister advocated for a peacekeeping mandate to stabilize the ceasefire and facilitate the progression to the next phase of the Trump peace plan. Abdelatty stressed the importance of Palestinian self-governance, asserting that Gaza and the West Bank are critical components of an independent Palestinian state. He underscored the necessity of Palestinian Authority empowerment in Gaza for lasting peace and stability in the region.

Addressing the Rafah crossing, Abdelatty mentioned that it remains open around the clock on the Egyptian side, yet Israel continues to restrict access from Gaza. He firmly opposed any use of the crossing for displacement purposes, allowing only those in need of medical aid to cross.

The call for humanitarian assistance was urgent, with Abdelatty urging the international community to deliver aid and prepare for Gaza's reconstruction, particularly with winter approaching. The humanitarian toll has been severe, with over 70,000 fatalities and nearly 171,000 injuries reported since October 2023, primarily affecting women and children, as per Gaza health authorities.

Abdelatty also highlighted the dire situation in the West Bank, noting increased settler attacks and the threat of displacement. He reiterated the need for Palestinian Authority presence in Gaza to ensure unity between Gaza and the West Bank.

The establishment of a Board of Peace, an international stabilization force, and a new administrative committee in Gaza under UN Resolution 2803 aims to support the ceasefire and transitional governance. Since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, Gaza authorities report numerous violations by Israel, resulting in 366 Palestinian deaths. The ceasefire's initial phase involves a prisoner exchange and plans for Gaza's reconstruction, excluding Hamas from the new governance structure.
