Istanbul: Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Monday emphasized the emerging influence of the Turkic world, highlighting Trkiye's significant regional role and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's diplomatic initiatives. Speaking at a press conference in Istanbul alongside Erdogan, Orban conveyed that the Turkish president had shared a vision of a shifting global landscape where the Turkic world would play a pivotal role.

According to Anadolu Agency, Orban had earlier attended a meeting with Erdogan, preceding the 7th session of the Trkiye-Hungary High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. The Hungarian leader praised Trkiye's proactive efforts to mediate the Russia-Ukraine conflict, labeling Erdogan as a sole successful mediator. Orban underscored Budapest's stance that the resolution lies in diplomatic avenues rather than military confrontation.

Orban expressed optimism about the political, energy, economic, and defense collaborations between Hungary and Trkiye. He noted Hungary's longstanding significance of its relationship with the Turkic world, reflecting its status as an observer member in the Organization of Turkic States.

Gratitude was extended by Orban towards Erdogan for Trkiye's migration policies, with assurances that Hungary would advocate for Ankara's efforts in both Brussels and the US. Addressing energy concerns, Orban confirmed Hungary's continuation of gas supplies from Russia and acknowledged Trkiye's role in facilitating natural gas transfer, thanking the nation for its support.

Orban also noted the recent US decision to exempt Hungary from sanctions on Russian oil and gas for one year. He revealed that 7.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas had been transported from Trkiye to Hungary via the TurkStream pipeline during the current year. Additionally, Orban highlighted the strengthening defense industry ties between the two nations, recognizing the sector's growing prominence in Europe.
