Trump to Weigh In on Netflix-Warner Bros Merger Decision

Washington: US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he will play a role in the decision-making process regarding Netflix's proposed acquisition of Warner Bros., highlighting concerns over market share. "That's the question. They have a very big market share. And when they have Warner Brothers, you know, that share goes up a lot," Trump stated to reporters at the Kennedy Center.

According to Anadolu Agency, the President emphasized the necessity of consulting economists to assess the implications of the merger. He remarked, "I don't know. That's going to be for some economists to tell, and I'll be involved in that decision. They have a very big market share." Trump also noted that the deal has to undergo a formal process before any conclusion can be reached, saying, "It's a lot of market share, so we'll have to see what happens."

Netflix announced on Friday its intention to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery's studio and streaming assets, including HBO and HBO Max. This merger would unite Netflix, the world's largest streaming platform, with the historic Hollywood studio. The deal, valued at $27.75 per Warner Bros. Discovery share, totals approximately $72 billion, with a complete enterprise value nearing $82.7 billion.

The potential merger is poised to become the most significant media transaction of the decade, with the capacity to transform Hollywood's landscape for future generations.
