Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday praised the progress made by Syrians over the past year 'despite all hardships, sabotage attempts and provocations.'

According to Anadolu Agency, President Erdogan used his NSosyal account to commemorate the first anniversary of the Dec. 8 Revolution, which he described as a pivotal moment that liberated Syrians from years of tyranny, immense sacrifice, deep suffering, and countless hardships. He expressed condolences for those who were martyred in attacks by the former regime and terrorist groups.

President Erdogan reinforced Trkiye's commitment to supporting Syria, stating that the country will continue to provide all necessary assistance to preserve Syria's territorial integrity and promote social peace among its diverse communities. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that Syria emerges as a center of peace and stability in the region.

The political landscape in Syria underwent a significant change last December when Assad, who led Syria for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia, marking the end of the Baath Party's regime that had been in power since 1963. Subsequently, a new transitional administration under Sharaa was established in January.
