Istanbul: Trkiye's electric vehicle brand Togg has emerged as the best-selling EV in the Turkish auto market between January and November, with 31,715 units sold, surpassing Tesla's 29,955 units and BYD's 17,639 units, according to new data.
According to Anadolu Agency, car sales in Trkiye saw a year-on-year increase of 10.96% in the first 11 months, totaling 938,177 units. Light commercial vehicle sales also rose by 7.13%, reaching 238,603 units, as reported by the Automotive Distributors' and Mobility Association (ODMD).
Gasoline-powered car sales dropped by 15.5% to 442,650 units, while hybrid car sales increased by 71.3% to 251,992 units. Diesel car sales declined by 18.8% to 69,740 units, with LPG-powered car sales rising to 7,399 units, a 33.9% increase.
The EV market, including extended-range models, experienced a 111.4% surge in sales, with 166,665 units sold, achieving a 17.8% market share. Togg led the EV sales with its T10X and T10F models, outpacing other brands like Tesla and BYD, which brought multiple electric models into the Turkish market.
Together, Togg, Tesla, and BYD accounted for 47.5% of the electric car market, with Togg alone making up approximately 20% of the market. In November, Togg sold 4,235 units, further affirming its leading position over Tesla, BYD, KG Mobility, and Volvo.
Throughout the year, the share of gasoline-powered cars in the Turkish market dropped from 62% to 47.2%, while diesel cars fell from 10.1% to 7.4%. LPG-powered cars maintained a 0.8% market share. In contrast, fully electric cars increased their share from 9.2% to 17.6%, and hybrids rose from 17.4% to 26.9%.
Collectively, fully electric, extended-range electric, and hybrid cars composed 44.7% of the total Turkish auto market, with 418,657 units sold. Plug-in hybrids represented 4.6% of the market, with sales surging by 658.9% to 42,857 units compared to the previous year.
BYD's Seal U led hybrid sales with 23,131 units, followed by Toyota's C-HR, Nissan's Qashqai, Peugeot's 3008, and Toyota's Corolla Cross, demonstrating significant shifts in consumer preferences toward more sustainable vehicle options.
